Security and safety have slipped over the last decade. The fix isn't more strain on an overstretched budget — it's letting police focus on what actually keeps the community safe.
Free police to do police work
Police officers should be focused on safety, not spread thin across tasks that don't need them — mediating landlord-tenant disputes, monitoring construction sites and funeral processions, issuing routine traffic citations. Reassign that work to other agencies so police can do the job only they can do: keeping the community safe.
Use technology, spend smarter
Modern tools can handle much of the routine load, freeing officers and stretching every dollar further at a time when the city's spending faces real limits. I'll work with the province to reinstall automated speed and red-light cameras on our streets — enforcement that keeps people safe without tying up officers.
Safe everywhere people gather
Schools, sidewalks, parks, and the lake shore should be safe for everyone. That's the baseline a great ward is built on.
